Our History

41 year old Ernest Guigli had a vision that was simple, but nothing shy of innovative; compete with equipment manufacturers in furnishing their own product. Construction managers soon saw the benefit of renting bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and other heavy equipment through the aftermarket, which provided complete maintenance and a full time union operator assigned to each machine. A union operator, with experience as a mechanic, Guigli made his dream a reality in the fall of 1966, when he purchased his first bulldozer, incorporating Ernest Guigli & Sons.

Many of the company’s first projects were equipment rentals. Ernesto maintained a group of full time union operators responsible for running and maintaining the machinery. A steady and committed approach to fewer clients and more personal attention, the company was soon met with success in the rental market. At that time, several of our employees logged 2,000+ work hours individually each year; an impressive tally given the seasonal nature of construction.

In 1973 and 1974, the construction market slowed, and Ernest Guigli & Sons, Inc. soon accepted site contracts to stay competitive in the industry. Most of these contracts came in the form of projects for the private sector in eastern Massachusetts. Following Ernest Guigli & Sons, Inc.'s success as a contractor, company infrastructure had to expand to support the volume of work. Two equipment maintenance and storage facilities were added, and the primary office was established in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

In 1979, Ernest’s youngest son Robert graduated from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and joined the company. His background as a Civil Engineer contributed a unique perspective to the company’s knowledge base; particularly in earth shaping and soils mechanics. Having an engineer on board reinforced our position as a site contractor with design capabilities.

In 1985, Ernest Guigli & Sons, Inc. became a member of the Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts (AGC). The AGC’s accreditation helped attract new clients and provided an invaluable networking resource among businesses and clients within the field.

Following Ernesto’s retirement in 1990, Robert Guigli assumed the role of President and C.E.O. The company continued to grow and thrive under Robert’s leadership. Robert relocated the primary office to Natick, Massachusetts in 1998, and placed a strong emphasis on industrial and commercial site contracts. In January 2004, a backlog exceeding $10 million was announced for fiscal year 2003, a new benchmark for our company.

Today, Ernest Guigli & Sons, Inc. maintains its position as one of the premier site developers in the state of Massachusetts. We strive to meet customer needs in the continuously evolving industry through the same philosophy that has guided our success in the past: to be the best contractor we can be for our clients.
